Are you one of those people who like to get the bad news out of the way? If so, great. I’m going to go over all the negatives for the Canon Pixma ip100. This is an extremely popular model with a lot of positive feedback and ratings from customers. By letting you know of all the potential negatives ahead of time, you shouldn’t have any doubt about buying this product if you choose to do so. One of the worst things that can happen after making a purchase is that you find out there are problems with the product that you were never told about.
The first negative is that the ip100 doesn’t come with a printer cable. Since it’s primarily a mobile printer with a Bluetooth interface option, this shouldn’t come as a big surprise. That said, many people buy this printer for home use. When they arrive home and open the box, they’re disappointed to find out the printer cable needs to be purchased separately. Most printer companies have been doing this for years. While it’s done for a little extra profit, it doesn’t seem to make sense. The small profit doesn’t equal the importance of the customer reaction.
Another negative is that there’s no case to carry this printer. Most people will carry it in some form briefcase or travel bag anyway, but a case would have been nice. Just so you know what your options are, the dimensions for the Canon Pixma ip100 are 12.7 x 2.4 x 7.2 inches. It weighs 4.4 lbs.
Noise is a minor factor. To put it simply, it’s a little on the noisy side, but not so much that it will tick off the person sitting next to you in the airport. And it’s definitely not loud enough to bother the person in the neighboring hotel room.
One issue that is stressed by many customers -- although not enough to decrease their opinion of the product -- is warm-up time. The ip100 has a tendency to take its time warming up, but this only a matter of seconds, not minutes. Think time is another issue, but perhaps that’s part of what makes the ip100 so intelligent.
The only other negative is that there’s no LCD screen or control panel. The interesting thing about this is that while other models stress the importance of this feature, none has been as well received as the ip100. It makes me wonder about the importance of the LCD screen. Perhaps it’s more for show. The ip100 isn’t about show. It’s about quality.
