There are two types of gold dredges which are commonly used to find gold. These two types are the surface and underwater dredges.
A surface dredge is another type of a gold prospecting tool which is used to suction silt and other material from the bottom of a stream of a creek. It usually floats on the surface of the water and pumps this material into a sluice. The sluice is usually floated on top of the creek or river as well, or set on the bank.
The other type of dredge is less practical because it has to be completely submerged in the water. This type is called the underwater dredge.
The underwater dredge is usually used to find large deposits of gold and then a surface dredge is utilized.
Dredge technology has quickly improved in modern times. People are now making a living mining gold with this equipment in areas once abandoned by the miners of old.
Sluices are used to filter out fine particles of gold or other precious minerals. There are many different types of this tool which can be found in the single, double or triple forms.
Another tool which is used to find gold is the gold pan. Gold pan's are lightweight and due to this are easy to bring into rugged terrain. This tool, however, is quickly becoming outdated as there are now more advanced tools available when prospecting.
The tool for the most serious of gold hunters is the gold detector. Some metal detectors are set to actually be able to find gold and you can find a variety of these tools to locate gold in almost any situation. There are many different types to choose from; an underwater gold detector, more sensitive types and others.
