Caring for Your Red Hair

Red hair is definitely one of the most difficult hair colors to properly care for and maintain, whether you are a natural redhead or you have dyed hair. Many women believe that it is well worth taking a little extra time to give their hair the care that it needs in order for it to stay looking bright and vibrant.

Natural Red Hair:  Red hair is naturally heavy, so do not use heavy applications of conditioners. Look for a light conditioner that has plenty of moisturizing formula in it. Once you have finished your shampoo and conditioning at least once a week apply a leave-in conditioner, you may want to look for one that has added UV protection, as the sun can really damage red hair and cause it to fade and lose its luster.

Dyed Red Hair Color: Use shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for dyed hair. You may also want to find a good quality color enhancing shampoo to use.  If you want to maintain your hair color you will probably need to plan on dyeing your hair every eight weeks. You should apply dye to the outgrown roots for the full length of time and apply some dye all over your hair for a shorter length of time.  Check out the details in the instructions you should receive with your hair dye. Do not wash your hair for a couple of days after dyeing it, that will help it retain the dye better and your color will last longer.

Whether you have dyed red hair or you are a natural redhead you will want to trim your hair around every eight weeks to get rid of split ends.

When it comes to it, the  hair color red is one of the more difficult to care for. It tends to take a little more time and care than other shades of hair coloring, but it is well worth the effort.
